The Frequently
Asked Questions are divided into sections which correspond
with each of the Sovman modules;
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Q:
How many levels of BOM will Sovman support?
A:
There
are an infinite number of levels.
Q:
Can we use the BOM for prototypes or samples?
A:
Sovman
will allow the entry of non-stock items and stock items
within a BOM and cost both.
Q:
Will the Bill of Materials handle wastage or scrap?
A:
There
is a percentage yield factor assigned to each component/raw
material.
Q:
What about manufacturing instructions or specifications?
A:
The
BOM will allow the entry of unlimited text which prints
on the production paperwork.
Q:
How does Sovman handle engineering changes?
A:
The
BOM has effectivity dates to control changes at both
product and component level.
Q:
What about formulations or recipes?
A:
Sovman
can handle formulations by allowing a BOM to be defined
for any quantity of finished product eg 1,000 litres.
Component/raw material quantities can also be expressed
in any unit other than the stocked-in unit eg millilitres
or grams.
Work Orders
Q:
How
are sales orders converted into works orders?
A:
You
may select sales orders manually and release them into
production or you can batch release ranges or orders
- for example, all orders for a specific customer due
out next week. Orders may be partially released.
Q:
Will Sovman raise orders for all levels of manufacture?
A:
When
a works order is raised, works orders are created for
any sub-levels automatically.
Q:
What about batch quantities?
A:
Works
orders can automatically generate batch quantities.
Q:
Will Sovman print my route cards?
A:
Routing
information can be entered through the Capacity Planning
module and route sheets can be printed.
Q:
What about sub-contract operations eg plating?
A:
Sovman
will handle sub-contract items through the bill of material.
Items are costed correctly including material and labour
costs.
Materials Planning/Sales Forecasts
Q:
Will
Sovman generate purchase orders automatically?
A:
Sovman
will produce Line 100 purchase orders based on re-order
levels and quantities. Orders are raised for a specified
horizon, for example, the next four weeks. Items may
be excluded from this process. Orders can be reviewed
and amended before final confirmation.
Q:
Can the planning periods be in days not weeks?
A:
Materials
Planning can operate in flexible periods of any duration,
for example the first two weeks in days and then in
weeks.
Q:
Are requirements consolidated for a period?
A:
All
requirements including sales orders are accumulated
to show a total requirement for the period with a drill
down to view individual transactions.
Q:
What about production plans or schedules?
A:
You
can enter a production schedule into Sovman and this
will generate requirements. A plan can be replicated
for any number of periods.
Q:
What about sales forecasts?
A:
Materials
planning can take account of sales forecasts entered
through the Sales Forecasts module.
Capacity Planning
Q:
Does
scheduling take account of holidays or down time?
A:
Each
work centre may have its own daily calendar specifying
actual hours available each day.
Q:
What type of scheduling is used?
A:
Sovman
uses reverse scheduling to infinite capacity.
Q:
Will the scheduling take account of sales orders
as well as works orders?
A:
You
can select either sales orders or works orders for a
range of dates for input to the scheduling run.
Q:
Can Sovman cater for a process flow line?
A:
